The Sequel Society

Redefining the Next Chapter for Women

Making meaningful female friendships after 40 shouldn't feel like a chore, yet over half of the women in our community admit it is one of the hardest things to navigate. The Sequel Society was created to change that. This is a dedicated space for women aged 40–60 to gather, grow, and check those long-neglected items off their bucket lists.

Whether you are navigating a career pivot, an empty nest, or simply looking for a tribe that understands the "middle years," you have a seat at this table. Our atmosphere is intentionally Relaxed, Supportive, and Adventurous.

What We Do

Based on feedback from over 300 women, our activities are designed around three core pillars:

1. Adventure & Exploration

Life is too short to wait for someone else to be "free" to go on that hike or wine tour. From waterfall treks and Nordic spa retreats to local day trips and even the occasional "big" item like skydiving, our goal is provide the group support to make adventure accessible.

2. Creative Mastery & Crafts

There is a profound joy in making something with your own hands. The Sequel Society will help facilitate workshops for all skill levels in areas such as pottery, stained glass, crocheting, painting, and DIY home decor. It’s less about being a perfect artist and more about the communal act of creating.

3. Empowerment & Life Skills

From "home maintenance for the solo woman" (plumbing, car repairs, and power tools) to personal growth sessions like financial planning, learning a new language, or starting that business you've been dreaming about, we will share the skills that make us more independent and confident.

How it Works

The Sequel Society is designed to fit into a busy life, not add more stress to it.

  • When We Meet: Gatherings primarily take place on weeknight evenings, which was the clear preference for the majority of our members.

  • Where: Monthly meetings will begin in an online space. Since there are quite a few women in locations other than Dartmouth, this will be used as a space for personal growth subjects, check ins and support.  The goal is to arrange an inperson event, workshop or outing in the area of HRM each month.  Information about these events will be posted on the Facebook group as well as a monthly newsletter.

  • The Cost: To keep things accessible, we use a Pay-as-you-go model in the beginning. There are no heavy annual membership fees; you simply pay for the specific events or workshops you choose to attend.

  • Peer Support: Beyond the activities, we facilitate "Lean In" style peer-support circles for those looking for deeper conversation and professional or personal encouragement.

  • Subgroups: Many women requested additional groups, such as regular games nights, book clubs, walking groups and so on.  These are goals for the future!

What’s on Your List?

Many women start their bucket list ideas with the phrase, "I know it sounds silly, but..." In this group, nothing is silly. Whether your goal is to write a novel, learn to swim, drive a manual transmission, or just find a grovy group of friends who won't flake on a Friday night, we are here to help you get it done.
